Coleraine Women invited to celebrate International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is the universal day that connects all women around the world and inspires them to achieve their full potential. This annual day of recognition, which is held on the 8th March, launches another year of working progressively for women’s equality worldwide. It is an important day because the collective power of women is witnessed by millions, and the brave achievements of women past and present are respectfully honoured.

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2008, women and girls from throughout the Coleraine Borough area are invited by Coleraine Borough Council, Coleraine Women’s Forum and International Parents of Pre Schoolers are coming together to mark this special day with an Indian Dance Workshop.

This free workshop will be by taken Pathma Kumari Mudiyanselage, who is from Sri Lanka and will be held in the West Bann Development Centre, Coleraine on Wednesday 5th March 2008, between 2pm and 4:30pm

Speaking ahead of the event Deputy Mayor of Coleraine, Cllr Liz Johnston is delighted that International Women’s Day is being celebrated in the Coleraine Borough area, and is encouraging women of the Borough to attend to attend the workshop, “This event will provide women and girls with the unique opportunity to network with one another. The workshop is open to all women but I would particularly encourage all new women to the Borough of Coleraine to attend this event. Council is committed to good relations in Coleraine and I fully support the event that has been organised for International Women’s Day”

Julie Welsh, Community Relations Manager at Coleraine Borough Council, added; “International Women’s Day is all about recognising women’s achievements and aspiring them to achieve their full potential. Council is dedicated to creating a community that is inclusive to all and this is reflected through our policies, partnerships and services. I am pleased that Coleraine Women’s Forum and IPOPS are marking this important event and hope that women and girls from the Borough will come along and enjoy the activities on offer.”

The workshop will commence by an introduction from Collette Duncan. Chairperson of the Coleraine Women’s Forum and will follow with free Indian cuisine will be served at the workshop and entertainment will also be provided.
